Zack is Dashing

Congratulations to Zack on his first 100 meter dash yesterday at his first track meet of the season ay UD. He came in first place in his heat. Watching Zack sprint down the track reminded me of how I used to have to practically run after him to catch up with him when he was little. He was always dashing ahead, anxious to just go, go, go! Check out the video here.

He later ran his first 200 meter race and took second place in his heat. It looks like he is a sprinter, which, of course, doesn't surprise me.

I can safely say he doesn't get his spriinting ability from my side of the family, as the Joseph's are typically distance runners more than sprinters. Zack has always run like his grandpa, who was watching in the stands yesterday. Way to go, Zack! Good luck for a great track season.

Attack of the Rolly Pollies!

I have never seen more rolly pollies in my house in my life. It seems like they have attacked from all sides. They are on the floors and in the doorways of the first floor of my house. I have to avoid stepping on them at every turn. Too bad my dog doesn't eat them!

If I find them alive, I take them outside and set them gently in the planter in our front porch. I seem to find more dead ones than live ones. I wonder if this is a result if our cold winter?

Happy Birthday, Nick!

I can't believe Nick is 12! It seems like yesterday when he was born. He began life with a smile in his face and has lit up people's lives with happiness ever since. Congratulations Nick on your Golden Birthday - 12 on the 12th!

The Magic of the Met

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the world's largest and most impressive art museums. I had never been there, so when Nick wanted to spend his last day in NYC at the Met, I was psyched.

We started the day with a healthy breakfast as you can see below ;-)

The Met is one of those museums where you need about three lifetimes to see everything. It is about a third bigger than the DIA, which is a big museum itself.

Unbelievable collection!

We were there for nearly three hours and felt like we had barely scratched the surface of the collection. We have to go back one day as it was full of too many amazing things to name.

Nick asked if we could ride in a taxi, which he had never done before, so we caught a cab in front if the museum and it took us to our bus stop.

Then we made our way back to our place to grab our bags and go to the airport.

Of course we couldn't pass up a self-serve frozen yogurt on the way out of town! What a great way to end a most amazing vacation😃

On Top of the World

On Wednesday we got up and got out onto Broadway. As has become our routine here, we're constantly on the lookout for new foods to try. As we were walking down the street, we spotted a lady selling churros. Ever had them? Nick loves them. Who wouldn't? 

We found a little cafe a block down and ordered pancakes and a breakfast burrito to go. We were on our way to buy tickets for the musical "Newsies".  

We were the first people in line to buy tickets from the lottery, which is where names are drawn and tickets are offered at a discount. We were excited when our names were picked!

We had two hours to spend before the show started, so we walked around Times Square and the theatre district. 

The show was terrific! We had fifth-row seats on the main floor, so we could see everything with amazing detail.

After the show, we walked to Rockefeller Center, where the Today Show and Saturday Night Live are produced. We went to the observation deck called the Top of the Rock. The view of the city was amazing!

After that, we went back to our friend's and hung out with them. Below is a picture of Nick with Graham and Imogen.

They made us a special dinner because it was our last night with them. It was a Chinese feast, and everything was delicious. What kinds of dishes do you recognize?

Superheroes Unite!

Nick and I got started our Tuesday with breakfast at 11:45am. Can you tell we're on vacation?! We look for things to eat that we don't ordinarily get at home. We found a little Mexican deli and had tacos de huevos con chorizo. Know what that means?

After getting lost for awhile on the wrong subway, we made it to our destination in Park Slope, a neighborhood in Brooklyn. Drum roll, please: the Superhero Supply Company! This place was so cool!! It is a free tutoring center part of the 826 Network that raises money by selling superhero-themed merchandise.

We then went across the street and noticed a gelateria. We just couldn't pass it up!

Oh, and there happened to be a NYC-style pizza place next door, so we had to stop in for a slice...

Mmm!

Then we had a "West Side Story" moment. Know why?

After that we went here. Where is "here"?

We had an amazing BBQ dinner, then saw "Motown: The Musical" which was almost as good as BCS's production of "Guys and Dolls"
