Words of the Wiser - Mom to Auggie

Use the Five-Why's strategy to answer this question:

What is the life lesson, and how might it affect the character?

This is based on the quote on p. 227  starting with "I don't know, sweetie..."

Start off by copying this: When mom says to Auggie, "I don't know, sweetie...who they love" (227)...

  1. "I don't know, sweetie.. Who they love" The life lesson of this WW is that heaven is a world of love and freedom. When Auggie learns that people might look different in heaven, they detect people by love, and no one is really that different how they look but how they are inside. Kind of like a egg, it matters what the yolk is, not the shell.

    1. It matters what you are inside, so who can be nicer to people, than be cool because cool is a variable not a constane. Cool is not important when it comes to getting a job, a life, and more. The thing that is most important is you inside.

  2. "I dont know sweetieyou do not need your eyes to love no one forgets how they love" the lesson is that you now the people you love even if they look completly different if you love sombody you can never forget them. Because if you truley love then you just feel it. you can feel it because it is just how the two of you know each other you never forget the way people act. You never forget how people act because you always remember if sombody was nice or mean to you.

    1. because if sombody is truley mean you remember what they did and atomaticly think this is a great person that I know and love or this person I know because they aree for some reason hated.

    2. that is how you truley know you love a person not by looks or physical charistics but by the way they truly act.

This is a WW from Auggies mom to Auggie. She tells him in the end, it matters who you are and not your face. She tells him that in Heaven, after you die, you look normal and your face does'nt matter. This will change the story because Auggie will care less and less about his face. Then he might even be friends with everyone else and live a normal life. Then he will be judged by who he is and not by his face. Then his face will not matter to him.

  5. When Mom says "I don't know sweetie... who they love" she tells Auggie the life lesson, In heaven you might not look the same, so you have to be judged by your actions. Because you can't judge someone by how they look. Because you can't see how they really look. Because you might not look the same, but you will still be the same person inside. Because you always have control over how you act.

    2. Looks don't matter because they won't last your whole life, but your actions will follow you everywhere, like when Maya said Auggie was funny, she didn't judge him by how he looked.

  6. When mom says to Auggie, "I don't know, sweetie...who they love..." the life lesson is expressed. For this part of the story the life lesson is in heaven if you don't look the same no one will judge you. But, in life no matter what you should not judge people by what they wear or how they look.

Because Auggie realizes that when he dies he will have another chance to start over and not look the way he does now. Because according to the mom he might not look the same when he goes to heaven. Because when Daisy the dog dies he realizes that she is in a better place. Because he does not want her to be in pain.

This affects him because again he realizes that living life to the fullest is important and not grieving about stuff that can be fixed in the future is key.

  7. When mom says to Auggie, "I don't know, sweetie...who they love" the lesson from this quote is that it does not matter what you wear or look like. Auggie thinks that in heaven, everyone looks the same. When he goes to heaven, he will look like everyone else. Since they all look the same, people will detect their loved ones by love.

  8. "I don't know, sweetie.. Who they love" The life lesson of this part in the story is that you have to cherish the time spent with people in your life our else time will pass before you know the person is dead. That is why it is soooooooo important to live life to the fullest. #YOLO

  9. "I don't know sweetie who they love". The life lesson is that when you go to heaven, you can recognize somebody by your feelings. You don't have to see somebody, you have to feel it. This might comfort Auggie because while Daisy is in Heaven Auggie can go meet Daisy. This is true because when he goes to Heaven, Auggie is sure he will see Daisy. Maybe when Auggie is in Heaven he will take even more extra care of Daisy.

  10. When mom says to Auggie, "I don't know, sweetie... who they love" (227)... What is the life lesson? It is that it matters what's on the inside not the outside. Why is it the life lesson?
Because she says in heaven your not the same so people only care and know about what's inside you. Why is it true?
Auggie says "Do people look the same in heaven?" and Auggie's mom says "I don't know. I don't think so."

  13. The life lesson is that you should not judged someone for what they look like on the outside judge people on what in the inside. This might effect his life because he should know that to judge people on the inside and let people know to judge people what's in the inside know that's why it might madder when he grows up.

The life lesson is that it does not matter how you look; it matters how you act. It does not matter how you look because that is something that you can not really change and is not your fault. You can not change your face because you were born like that. It matters how you act because that is something that you can change. You can change it because it is something that is in you and can control. You can control your act because it is how you think in your brain and you can control your brain.

Why did Augie ask if you look the same in heaven? Because he didn't want to be judged by his face in heaven and what he would look like. Why don't you "need eyes to love?" You can feel there spirit around you. You can know who someone is by feeling they're company. How can i connect to my life and feeling someone around you? I can connect because i can still feel my cousin's spirit around. Even though he might not look the same, his soul is still the same. Why don't you forget about the deceased when they leave the world. Because as long as they were in your life, you can't just forget about something or someone that important.

Becouse a person can be deoformed but also can be a good friend. They can be a good friend becouse every person can be a good person no matter what you look like. Every person can be a good person becouse they can all choose there own path in life. You can choose if you want to be kind or not.

The life lesson is don't judge people on how they look. You shouldn't judge people by how they look because it is not nice. It is not nice because then a nice person could be not cool according to some people.

  19. Quote from pg 227:
"I don't know sweetie… They just feel it. You don't need your eyes to love, right? You just feel it inside you. That's how it is in heaven. It's just love, and no one forgets who they love."

What is the life lesson, and how might it affect the character?
    Why?
Love isn't what you look like it is what you feel like. You don't even need eyes to love someone.
    Why?
it doesn't matter what you look like, it matters what on the inside- what you act like and your character.
    Why?
Auggie might look different from every one else, but that doesn't mean he is not beautiful. What is beauty? His family and friends.
    Why?
His family and friends still love him despite his differences. That would teach him to appreciate love.
    Why?
Love comes from love. As in, if you are loved you are more likely to not be a judgeful person.
    Why?
You can judge people by how they treat others.

Who they love" i think the life lesson is it doesn't matter who other people think you are its about how you express yourself. if people think your cool because of how you act then that's good that's who you are and how you dress can show who you are to looks help with your personality as well. it think that even if you can see in heaven you have to find the person by the way the act if they look different. but it comes down to how you act no matter what you where it wont change who you are on the inside.

  21. When mom says to Auggie, "I don't know, sweetie...who they love" (227)... The life lesson is that you don't need to judge someone by what they look like, you can just feel it. Because you shouldn't judge someone by what they look like. Because that could make them feel bad. Because you are making fun of them and they don't deserve that. Because they haven't done anything wrong. Because if they haven't done anything to deserve whatever difference they have, then why do they have it? Because not everyone gets equality on the world. Because the world can be a difficult place.

This might affect Auggie because people might bully him. Because he has a different face. Because he was born like that. Because it runs in his family from somewhere. Because of genes.

It will affect the character by when the characters are mean to them they start to dislike them. Why? when you are mean to people you hurt their feelings. Why? it affends people when you say mean things.

  25. When mom says to Auggie, "I don't know, sweetie...who they love". The life lesson is don't judge people on how they look judge them by there character. What if someone used to have a lot of money and they had nice clothes and shoes but suddenly something happens and now they have to wear old worn out clothes. Would they suddenly not be cool anymore just because your clothes aren't. That isn't fair.

You will see them another time. Don’t stay for long and just look forward to see them in the future. I think this will change Auggie as a character. Instead of Auggie suffering so much he can Know that Daisy and Grandma in such a happy place!

  28. When Mom says to Auggie, "I don't know sweetie...who they love." The life lesson that Auggie learns is that no matter if you can see or not, you don't need eyes to love. This tells Auggie that no matter where he is, Daisy will always love him, and be with him. Since Daisy died, I expect that he feels lonely without Daisy. Now he knows that Daisy will never leave him. She will always be in his heart, wherever he goes, no matter where he is. I know that sounds corny, but hey, we all say corny things sometimes.

I think it means she is telling Auggie only their spirits go to heaven and can be recognized by the ones who really know them even if they look different they can see past the difference into the person they love. I also thing Auggie's mom is telling him a message in a different way. I think when she says "... who they love" she means it doesn't matter what you look like to people it matters, if they can see past the ugly to the nice. I think she is trying to tell him this message because she wants to give him advise for the future to try and help him out.

The life lesson is people know who they love, their looks don't matter. In heaven, people don't care what you look like. The phrase 'Don't judge a book by its cover,' is what heaven is like. People don't care what you look like. They just care about characteristics of the person. They know who they love, they don't care about your clothes or face. In heaven, people don't care about your clothes. They care about who you are.

  41. When mom says to Auggie, "I don't know, sweetie...who they love". she means that if someone really loves you and if it's really love than they wont care what you look like. There is a saying "Don't Judge a Book by it's cover" and "It's the inside that counts" for a reason. When you really love someone you love them for their personality and the actions that they choose not what they look like. If everyone in the world loved people for their looks than the world would be a terrible place. People that have any kind of difference with what they look like would be unloved and forgotten.Even when people do change their clothes or their hair of anything if you truly loved them before you would after the change. "I don't know sweetie… They just feel it. You don't need your eyes to love, right? You just feel it inside you. That's how it is in heaven. It's just love, and no one forgets who they love." She means true love is judging on the inside not the out because It's the inside that truly counts!

The life lesson is that you don't need to see somebody you love... say your dad had some kind of sydrome of some sort... does that mean you wouldn't love him? August realizes that since his face is deformed, it still wouldn't matter in heaven, because nobody they only recognize each other by love. It matters about their personality, not what their face looks like. If you met Julian, would you think he was nice because he looked rich? No.

I think they life lesson is that it doesn't matter what someone looks like becaue it doesnt matter matter what someone looks like in Heaven. I think it affects Auggies because it teaches him a lesson when he learns that it doesn't matter what someone looks like, it matters what someone's like on the inside. Beauty is only skin deep. Auggie is glad because he doesn't want to have his face when he goes to heaven. Maybe he wouldn't always want to be stuck his his face even in the afterlife. I think Auggie is glad that Daisy and Grandma might look healthier and better when they go to Heaven. His grandma died in a stroke or a heart attack and Daisy might have died a looking bad. Auggie is glad to give or hope to give Daisy and Granda a second chance. He loves Daisy and Grandma.
