Conversation with a Loyalist #1
Loyalist: Hello, my fellow loyalist.
Me: Hello. Are you Lord Dunmore from
Scotland?
Loyalist: I am indeed. My real name
is John Murray from the royal Scottish family.
Me: Intriguing. Why did you decide
to come to the colony of Virginia?
Loyalist: In 1771, King George III
appointed me for the royal governor. I couldn't very well reject his generous
offer.
Me: Of course. What a honor.
Loyalist: Well, yes. But when I
started my ruling time, a group that calls themselves the Patriots boycotted
and rejected our fair rule.
Me: That is why I'm a loyalist. The
British were so fair and protective over us.
Loyalist: I agree entirely. If they
spend too much time biting the hands that feed them, they'll end up with
nothing, or death.
Me: I'm glad someone can see sense.
They are traitors, plain and simple. I must bid you farewell.
Loyalist: Goodbye.

Conversation with a Patriot
#1
Patriot Talk:
Ben Franklin: I am a inventor, writer and scientist
Me: I am a young Patriot
Ben Franklin: I tried to write to the King to stop making laws that were unfair
Me: Yeah, I would be okay if he stopped making unfair laws
Ben Franklin: I think that they will keep making unfair laws
Me: I think that that is bad
Ben Franklin: I believe that the colonists will be able to govern themselves
Me: I definitely believe that
Ben Franklin: So let's both keep working on trying to get loyalists to be patriots
Me: Yes, I will
Ben Franklin: I am a inventor, writer and scientist
Me: I am a young Patriot
Ben Franklin: I tried to write to the King to stop making laws that were unfair
Me: Yeah, I would be okay if he stopped making unfair laws
Ben Franklin: I think that they will keep making unfair laws
Me: I think that that is bad
Ben Franklin: I believe that the colonists will be able to govern themselves

Ben Franklin: So let's both keep working on trying to get loyalists to be patriots

Conversation with a Loyalist #2
Me: Hi, Thomas Hutchinson is it? My name is Bill and I am new to the whole loyalist concept. I just joined this side and I need to know what being a loyalist is all about. Could you explain it to me?
Thomas: Sure, Bill, you seem trustworthy enough. Being a loyalist mean you need to show that you are in control. You have to be dedicated and to show your power rarely smile.
Me: Ok, so you basically have to glare at everyone? Even the people you are related to?
Thomas: Yep, as a loyalist you have to believe that without the King George to guide us we really would not be here right now.
Me: But the question is do we really need him?
Thomas: Of course! You would not be saying that if you were a loyalist.
Me: Ok, I understand.
Thomas: I for one think that the patriots are unable to govern themselves. I think that is really all you need to know for now.
Me: Yes, I agree with everything you just said. I really appreciate you taking the time to talk to me.
Thomas: Bye and may you live a wonderful life, Bill.

Conversation with a Patriot #2
Me: Excuse me Mr. Adams? Hi, My name is Julie and both my parents are patriots. I am 11 and always hear them talking about you and how wise you are and how stupid the loyalists are. Most of the time I don't understand what they are saying. Could you explain the basics of being a patriot to me?
Sam: First, thank you for the complement. I do try hard. Second of course I will tell you.
Me: Thanks!
Sam: The first thing you need to know about being a patriot is that patriots believe that colonist should not have to pay my taxes on British goods.
Me: Ok, so basically all those high taxes that my parents complain about are bad?
Sam: Yep, very bad. Lots of people like myself argue with the King about these taxes through newspaper articles.
Me: Doing that could also get people’s attention about how the King is bad, right?
Sam: Exactly, you could also give speeches at public meeting that a lot of people attend like me.
Me: I think I get is now. Thank Mr. Adams!
Sam: You’re Welcome! And tell your parents that they seem awesome, Julie!

Jonathan: We shouldn't have independence from Great Britain. I sailed to the colonies when I was a young man then I went back to Great Britain. I became a priest in the Church in England then came back to the colonies. See there very generous.
Moderator: What about you Mercy?
Mercy: If they care so much about us then why do they have the taxes so high and pay the workers so little.
Moderator: I see, on for your second argument.
Jonathan: Common people are not capable of ruling, that's why we have a king.
Moderator: Mercy, what do you have to say?
Mercy: Families in the colonies have a hard time paying for the expensive goods, therefore the colonies are better off with their own government.
Moderator: Tell us your last argument Jonathan.
Jonathan: The kings power comes from God! Why do you think he rules? That's why you must do what he says!
Moderator: Okay, what do you have to say Mercy?
Mercy: Well, the British laws and taxes are unfair, we should be treated equally.
That's our debate
Our names are Kyle V. and Jake F.
ReplyDeleteHere is our conversation.
Moderator: Hello, my name is Fred V, reporting to you live at The Debate! Our friend, Jonathan Boucher, will start.
Loyalist argument #1: I think every patriot is dumb! THey have no sense of what the king is doing for them. He gives them a reasonable price to pay for taxes. King George works hard everyday to help our country! And they punish him for that! We shoudl rule the colonies to make them a great place like here. (Glares and Ben Franklin.)
Moderator: Ok, what does our patriot say to that?
Patriot argument #1: I disagree, King George is a guy who gets as much money as he can. (Stands up.) He so greedy! His taxes make us pay so much! His taxes eat up my money so I don't have much extra! The thirteen colonies deserve to NOT be ruled by King George III.
Moderator: Interesting! How does Jonathan reply?
Loyalist argument #2: As a priest, I have a job. I get a good amount of money, and taxes are just going to help the government! I get a benefit of money each day. My life is really good this way, so I don't see a reason to change it! If we make the King here in charge of the colonies over there, they'll be just as good as here!
Moderator: Alright... and Ben?
Patriot argument #2: I have done much to try and persuade Loyalists to join Patriots. I'm not stopping that fast. I think that as an inventor, I have made many inventions like the Lightning rod, bifocals, and they gave me money. But the King just took it away. I've protested and persuaded and done lots, yet it doesn't work.
Moderator: So you've done a lot. What have you done loyalist?
Loyalist argument #3: I've taught people in church about this. I really don't want to fight the king either. I'm always telling people about this!
Moderator: Ok, anything you'd like to add?
Patriot argument #3: I don't want to fight the king, which is why I protest in non violent actions. I think if we get enough Patriots, we can change things!
Moderator: Ok that's for today. Thanks for coming to The Debate!

Mercy Otis Warren: Sure Aria, I think that they should because the British taxes are too high and they are paid too low. Great Britain has harsh laws!
Thomas Hutchinson: I think that she was asking me, Mercy. Well, anyways, the 13 colonies could not declare independence, they could not govern themselves without the British king to guide.
Moderator: Oh, I see
Mercy Otis Warren: I think that Mr. Hutchinson is telling a lie! The 13 colonies could-and should declare independence! British taxes are unfair! Families in these colonies have a hard enough time earning money! They have rights too!
Thomas Hutchinson: I think not! The laws are there for a reason!
Moderator: what kind of reasons?
Mercy Otis Warren: like taking all of the people's hard earned money for themselves!
Thomas Hutchinson: I think that Great Britain should be tougher on the colonist! They have it easy!
Moderator: but don't the workers get paid little and taxed much?
Mercy Otis Warren: EXACTLY!
Thomas Hutchinson: those patriots need to understand that King George III knows what's best! They don't know a thing about--
Mercy Otis Warren: those poor patriots are right for what they think! It is not just about the king! I respect him but, this is just rude of him!
Moderator: I get it now! So King George III is taxing the colonies too high! I agree Mercy Otis Warren! Sorry Mr. Hutchinson, I guess I just can't agree.

Moderator: Hello ladies and gentlemen, today we will have a debate about the colonies wanting independence from England. Greetings patriots and loyalists. Our first loyalist that will be speaking today is Thomas Hutchinson. Welcome Thomas and many thanks for you to be showing up to this fine debate.
Loyalist argument #1: No problem. I think that it's very disrespectful and disloyal to England for them patriots to not be thankful for everything that England has done for them and England has done quite a lot for the patriots.
Moderator: True but now Mr. Franklin, what do you have to say about this opinion?
Patriot argument #1: In ways I can see what your talking about and I can in someways agree. But, the colonists have nothing to owe to a king that has only given the colonists unfair laws and lies. The laws the British make are very unfair and unnecessary to the colonists and making there lives harder.
Moderator: Thank's for both opinions. Both of them were excellent points. Not let's hear from other people from England and the colonists.
Loyalist argument #2: Hello. My name is Lord Dunmore a.k.a John Murray. So I believe that since Britain started the colonies and have protect them for a long time, that they have the right to tax for an exchange of their safety.
Moderator: We will now hear from Mercy Otis Warren who's a patriot.
Patriot argument #2: I believe that the taxes are unacceptable and cruel. Almost every colonists has a hard time earning enough money to keep themselves alive even without these useless taxes! This proves that the colonists are doing the right thing. They would definitely be better off without the government.
Moderator: Mercy Warren is known well for her touching writing.
Loyalist argument #3: I totally disagree. I am proudly Jonathan Boucher a powerful leader that is in charge of many other leaders. So when you disobey the great British, you disobey God. Why? Because the king's rules comes from God.
Moderator: Again both opinions outstanding. But now we will finally hear from Samuel Adams.
Patriot argument #3: Thank you for inviting me to this debate. I believe that colonists shouldn't have to pay taxes for the British goods. Also I believe that the colonists should have the right to elect their own governors instead of the government picking them because that would be very fair. I hope I get to elect the next governor.
Moderator: Thank you all for your opinions today. Also than you all for showing up to this debate. We shall see if this makes a impact on the society but for now it will stay the same. Thank you all once again.
ReplyDeleteModerator: Welcome to the debate between Lord Dunmore and Mercy Odis Warren.
Loyalist argument #1:I believe that we should join the loyalists because Great Britain created the colonies and continued to protect them. Therefore,we have the right to make them pay taxes on British goods.
Moderator: Now we will hear from the patriots' side.
Patriot argument #1: I am upset about the harsh ways the colonists are being treated. I feel that taxes are too high and that workers are paid too little.
Moderator: Lord Dunmore, what do you think?
Loyalist argument #2: I feel that that fighting for independence would hurt the economy and make many colonists poor.
Moderator: Thank you, Lord Dunmore. Mercy, how do you feel?
Patriot argument #2: I feel that families in the colonies have a hard time making the money to pay for the expensive British goods.
Moderator: Thank you, now we will hear for the last time from Lord Dunmore.
Loyalist argument #3: I feel that the colonies must depend on Great Britain. Colonists who don't fight for the king are traitors.
Moderator: Thank you, we will hear from Mercy now for the last time
Patriot argument #3: I feel that the colonists would be better off with their own government.
Moderator: Thank you for coming to the debate today.

Moderator: what do you think patriot?

Moderator: give me some evidence of these you say.
Loyalist argument #2: well, lord Dunmore says "Great Britain started the colonies and continued to protect them".
Moderator: ok, we have some proof from a loyalist, what about some proof from a patriot.
Patriot argument #2: well, Ben Franklin was first a loyalist, but switched to a patriot because of the not lowering taxes from the British.
Moderator: what about another one of Lord Dunmore.
Loyalist argument #3: well, Lord Dunmore said "who does not fight for the king in a traitor to Great Britain".
Moderator: what about another one of Ben Franklin.
Patriot argument #3: at first, Ben Franklin tried to reach agreement with great Britain, but Britain did not listen to him.
Moderator: very interesting. One last piece from a loyalist please.

Loyalist argument #1: The 13 American Colonies should not have independence from Great Britain because they would not be able to govern themselves.
Me: And now for the first Patriot argument.
Patriot argument #1: The King is making unfair laws we should have independence. British get better treatment then us.
Me: Okay I see now for Loyalist argument #2.
Loyalist argument #2: If the colonies get independence they will be disobeying God because God appointed the King.
Me: Okay, Patriots.
Patriot argument #2: God did not appoint the King, he was just born into the royal family which is just a group of tyrants.
Me: I see your turn Loyalists.
Loyalist argument #3: The King is not a tyrant, he is a good leader that makes completely fair laws.
Me: And now for the Patriots.
Patriot argument #3: As we said earlier his laws are not fair. He treats us better then the people of his country and we should not have to pay extra taxes for tea and other things.
Me: It is decided. Patriots win!

Patriot argument #1: Hello I have been writing a newspaper articles so the people are notified and that we can change unfair laws.
Moderator: Thank you for your first argument.
Loyalist argument #2: I have gathered warship so that we can be strong and fight back but if we make 13 colonies then we can not be as strong and we could lose.
Moderator: That is a good way to look at it.
Patriot argument #2: I think that if we give more power to the 13 colonies so that they can make there own laws and help each other in that colony.
Moderator: I can see how that would help.
Loyalist argument #3: I think that we should stay as one because we need all the war men that we can get and if we slept we could lose and everyone will suffer.
Moderator: I do not want that to happen.
Patriot argument #3: I think that it is unfair that the king chose the governors for the colonies.

ReplyDeleteModerator: Good day Mr. Hutchinson and Mrs. Warren. We are here to discuss weather or not the 13 Colonies should declare independence from England.
Thomas Hutchinson argument #1: Well to start, I think that the colonist can't govern them selves, much less survive without Great Britain.
Moderator: Good point, and you Mrs. Warren?
Mercy Ottis Warren argument #1: I disagree completely, Great Britain raises the taxes much to high, making the colonist pay much more than Great Britain does.
Moderator: Mr. Hutchinson, you're a govenor. What's your sight on that?
Thomas Hutchinson argument #2: I think just like the colonist rampaged my home. They are un-capable of governing them selves, and are to immature.
Moderator: Well Mrs. Warren seems pretty mature. She is a poet and wrights her complaints through letters instead of rampaging loyalists houses.
Mercy Ottis Warren argument #2: Yes, I do try to be mature. Plus, we can definitely govern ourselves. If our tyrant like King can do it, we can definitely do it.
Moderator: How do you see that comment Mr. Hutchinson?
Thomas Hutchinson argument #3: I think that no one especially women, should comment on there giver of money, clothing, and shelter like that. It is punishable by death, and if she passes on, that just means 1 less enemy for us!
Moderator: Well, there is no saying no to that!
Mercy Ottis Warren argument #3: Actually there is. Patriots like myself should not have to pay such high taxes on British goods like tea, when Great Britain is enjoying tea for a lot less.
Moderator: You both had great debates. I wish you both luck in the upcoming arguments. Farewell.

Farewell.

Moderator: Now tell, me: Why have you chosen the sides you are on now?
Loyalist argument #1: I am Lord Dunmore, I cannot believe what those patriots are thinking! We must be loyal to our King. His say is the law. All people who disobey our country are traitors. Britain started us.
Moderator: So, you are basically saying "Long live the King!" What do you think about that and your choice, Ben Franklin?
Patriot argument #1: Well, as Benjamin Franklin, I think he is only saying that because he is rich and was appointed royal governor. Why should we listen to Britain?! They are practically asking us to rebel from them. With such taxes for ridiculous things we will soon go bankrupt ourselves. Freedom.
Moderator: So, to sum that up you mean, "Give me liberty or give me death." Why don't you to tell me a little bit about how you came to choose being a loyalist or patriot?
Loyalist argument #2: The King chose me to make the colonists obey Britain I also have my own opinion, too. How would you feel if your own children started to hate you! Since Britain is the main source of our economy shouldn't we pay our taxes.
Moderator: Interesting theory. Benjamin what do you have to say?
Patriot argument #2: Well I think that Lord Dunmore here is being a little to harsh on us colonists, just to listen to him. At first I was going to be a patriot - I figured Great Britain would be kinder to the colonists. But, they kept laying down unfair laws. So, I thought that since I had many talents and things to offer for the colonies I decided to side with the patriots, firmly.
Moderator: Cool! May I ask you to say how we can solve the problem of the idea of revolution.
Loyalist argument #3: I think that all of the patriots should just drop their weapons. There is no point in fighting against one of the most powerful forces on the world. And those laws, Mr. Franklin, that you call "unfair" are keeping you alive! Anyhow, Britain must prove its power and authority to the colonies by launching attacks, flash mobs, raise taxes, and keep them in line. I actually started this plan, you've heard how I so cleverly bombarded the town along the Elizabeth River, Virginia. We must have order! They will be so scared that they will listen… to us! We must work as one country to be one nation.
Moderator: Let's keep are heads on Lord - you have made Mr. Franklin turn red. Speak.
Patriot argument #3: Lord Dunmore, how will fighting keep them in order, it will only make the colonists angered. There is always a safer way to solve problems. You have not made them scared you gave them an opportunity to stand up for themselves. Before using the strategy of war I think the colonies and Great Britain should negotiate peace and talk it through. And sign a paper stating the liberty of the people and that they obey the royalty. Use the gifts god has given us and think before we act. If all that fails then I agree there will be battles and no random, tea-cup men will be fighting… free men and woman will grant us independence someday.
Moderator: Both of you have given excellent points to prove! I wish we could speak more- but it is time to go. We have a fight to fight out there! I agree with both of you. Though, we will never know whose argument is more important and which one will live to the next generation.

ReplyDeleteModerator: Hello, Lord Dunmore and Samuel Adams, Lord Dunmore can start.
Loyalist argument #1:Hello I have been working as a royal governor of Virginia i think that we should stay together so we can be more powerful.
Moderator: That is important to know.

ReplyDeleteModerator: Order, order. Today's argument is: should we declare independence from England. Lord Dunmore, you go first.
Loyalist:Thank you. We should not declare independence from England. The king has put these taxes on us to help him out with the war. In return, he protects us.
Moderator: Mr. Samuel Adams, your turn.
Patriot: The king has made these unfair laws upon the colonies. The taxes are outrageous. The kind has become a tyrant. It is not right that he has this much power over us and we can not represent ourselves. Sure, he protects us, but we can protect ourselves.
Moderator: I can see your point. So far, we are quite tied up.
Loyalist: The King has the right to make these laws when he feels the need. How are we supposed to declare independence when he makes all these important choices that we can not make.
Moderator: True. How are we supposed to govern ourselves?
Patriot: We can govern ourselves quite well. Once we declare independence we will make a government that gets its power from the people, so that everything is fair.
Moderator: That would be a feet.
Loyalist: The King has been endowed with powers from God. Disobeying the King is disobeying God.
Moderator: Ah yes, that is one point of view.
Patriot: God is the one who gave us our freedom. Why would God give someone the power to take our freedom away.
Moderator: I can see you both have very different points of view regarding God, but I have made my decision that we shall declare independence from England. Good job, Mr. Adams.
