Mesopotamia Video Notes

Watch the video. Watch the time counter on the video.

For the first three minutes (0:00-3:00) write a note about something that interests you or something you didn't know before.

For the next three minutes (3:00-6:00) same as above.  

For the next three minutes (6:00-9:00) same as above.

For the next three minutes (9:00-12:00) same as above.

For the last two minutes (12:00-13:58) same as above.

  1. 1. In the Mesopotamia is in a water valley.

    2. They grow barley and wheat and they grow melon and dates. They used levee's to stop the river flooding. The Sumerians discover writing.

    3. They invented they wheel. Each city state has a king witch is based on a god. Farmers and fishers are the poorest and priest's are the richest.

    4. Scribes are one of the most important people. Slaves need to work three years the they get free. They believe in 7 great gods earth, moon, sun, wind, fresh water, Salt water. They pay taxes.

    The people found out how to tame wild animals and learned to farm a type of wheat.

    They never knew when a flood would come and destroy their crops.
    They had a complicated water system with gates.
    They invented plows and calenders and the zodiac and writing.
    Their style of writing is called cumiform.

    They made city/states that were named after the gods.

    They have many different jobs.
    They keep slaves.
    They have to go to tablet school to become a scribe.

  5. Some things that interest Our did not know is that they had to get really good at farming. They invented wrighting.
    They envented the weel. There are tons of jobs in there village such as priest farming and more there are also slaves in there village but you do not want to be a slave. They have kings and quins and priest and tax man

    (0:00-3:00) minutes write a mote about something that interests you or you didn’t know before
    There ancestors used to make aliving by hunting and traveling for planting then they discovered how to tame goats and sheeps and harvest wheat and discovered food was near them cause they have two rivers also the soil is fertile because when the snow on the mountain melts they get new water

    The grow barley and wheat and apples there animals grow meat milk and cheese there are plenty of fishes to they invented how to control the river they had levys so water couldn’t get over they had gates if they need water for their crops they also made a calendar from the moon and stars so they now when floods from the mountains come they also invited writing they write on clay tablet press the point of the stylus in wet clay and youre writing



    (6:00-9:00) same as above
    They invented wheels before that they used to drag things around in the old days most people had to farm but now people can quit and give it to other people ther are capitals to theres a ziggurat named enirnanci (their temples) the richer people get two story houses most people live inside the city walls they use mud bricks for houses there are slaves




    (9:00-12:00) same as above
    There is cloth from the sheeps wools theres tablet schools there are jobs like potter or fisherman and some people just play music the slaves have to work for 3 years their religion is 7 great gods earth sky sun moon saltwater freshwater and wind they spend a lot of time praying they offer food to the gods every day gods on the land they give the gods the food and split it up the king is in charge of trade

    Of course the king needs help though to support the king and the priest you also get taxed on mostly everything thiers a burden men have to do they have to do a bunch of time there are priests and kings and you should be scared of the tax manager

    3-6 They fish, rather than just eating plants and livestock. The Sumarian invented the plow and the calendar, and writing.

    6-9 The best thing is the wheel. They got so good, they could just quit anytime. They organize by wealthy, no so wealthy, the poor.

    9-12 Some people's jobs are to play music. They believe in 7 gods. The priests hold ceramonies for the gods. They take care of everyone.

    12-13 The king has a lot to do.The sumarians play taxes! They get taxed on everything.

  27. 1. Like neolithic and paleolithic age, they didn't know they could grow their food until a while after.
    2. They never knew when a flood was going to come, but then they built gates so no floods could get in town then when it was to dry they would open the gates.
    3. They where the first people to write down their laws for the area. Also they invented the wheel.
    4. They had slaves and they had been captured during the war and they where released eventually.
    5. They have to pay taxes almost everything like fishing and stuff like that.
