Mr. Joe, How Does Your Garden Grow?

So now that Zack and Nick have grown out of playscapes, we decided to repurpose the 10 year-old wood from the backyard play structure into raised vegetable garden beds. We all have an interest in gardening, and are looking forward to fresh vegetables in the fall.

Of course before any plants or seeds can even go into the ground, the beds had to be built and the dirt dumped. Fortunately, yours truly knows just enough about carpentry to build the beds. We laid down plastic to prevent any chemicals from the wood leeching into the soil and perforated the plastic for drainage.

Then came the dirt! Five trailer loads full from a pile of compost open to anyone with a shovel and way to haul the dirt. Once the rich soil was dumped and the garden beds filled, the only thing left was to plant the seeds. Stay tuned, fresh vegetable lovers!
